21st Century Learning

Regardless of the area or district a student of today lives in, the acquisition of technology skills is a must to be successful in the global marketplace. Computer literacy needs to be an intricate part of the curriculum. What does that look like to a typical high school student? What electronic devices would they use and how? How could they demonstrate learning, understanding of the material without the standard ways of testing or writing a paper? Is there a way for them to use their cell phones to show understanding? What about a blog, a wiki or creation of a website? Today's students want to create their own media and they must have the problem solving and thinking skills to come up with new ways to learn.

  1. Yeah, I agree. I think that we could easily use all of that stuff, we just need to learn to use technology properly.

  2. I agree very strongly on the opinion. Now a days everything relies on technology and the study of new materials and devices to make jobs easier. If we get a basic understanding of what people work with our futures will be easier. Also, with new media ways to learn is a great way to ctach the attention and keep us interested and actually teach us something.

  3. I think that schools need to incorporate different forms of technology in to schools. I think it that it would be easier in a lot of ways for students to learn, bcuz everyone learns best in a different ways.

  4. When speaking about computers, a typical high school student might think about the internet. The high school students could display what they learned about the material by making a powerpoint or using a podcast. They could use a blog or web site to demonstrate their knowledge because they could just post whatever they have researched like a wiki.

  6. I agree. Everything now is about technology. Using technology can make things easier too. Schools now require students to use technology, like to write a final draft on a paper. I think schools should allow students to listen to ipods because it helps some students stay more focused on their assignments.

  12. technology is most definetly important for students to understand. there is no reason why they should not be allowed the proper resources and tools to learn and use. it is stupid that our district is so far behind with getting the right equipment and training our teachers to switch to computerized classrooms. technology is everywhere in the world, and if you do not know how to use it, getting along in the world will be extremely difficult. you could 'test' students by giving an assignment to create a presentation or a project using multi-media.

  15. This is a true statement. The way we learn has changed and the students must adapt to the change or they will be left behind. Technology is all around progressing more and more each year. Schools have changed their ways on school assignments by turning to computers for the typed word. The written word is still here but its time to move on with the future an except technology for what it is....faster way to knowledge.

  16. I agree. our world revolves around nothing but technology these days. most of us have access to Ipods, cell phones, or computers. I think that if we don't learn how to use all this technology properly, then our education will slip.
